New Delhi, July 21: In a major relief to parents worried about the admission of their wards in nursery classes, the Delhi Government had announced the addition of 35,000 seats to the primary classes in Sarvodaya Vidyalayas in the current session.
As per a statement released by the Government on Monday, 35K more students will get admissions in nearly 375 Sarvodaya Vidyalayas in the 2009-10 session.
“The demand for admission has increased in last few years, so we decided to increase the number of seats to provide relief to the parents,” said Chandra Bhushan Kumar, Director Education.
“The decision was taken to increase the seats to make it easier for students to take admission. The seats will be amended from this session itself and we have already started admitting students,” he added.
Maximum 10 students would get added in each class of all Sarvodaya schools from nursery to class V, as per the government.
Twelve lakh students are studying in the government schools currently as compared to eight lakh students a couple of years back, according to the government, this is the other reason for taking the decision.
Even the dropout rate of students studying in the government schools has reduced from 17.5% to just 5% in the past few years.
All these have led to taking the decision of adding 35,000 more seats to the primary classes.
