But when the 17-year-old, right-handed batting sensation Sarfaraz Khan flexed his muscles against the Rajasthan Royals at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy stadium, Kohli couldn’t help but fold his hands in admiration.
INDIAN teenager Sarfaraz Khan has used a James Faulkner delivery as a crash test dummy to display the latest shot in cricket’s Twenty20 textbook.
Known to be a clean hitter of the ball, Sarfaraz made his first-class debut in 2014-15. He has also represented India in Under-19 cricket.
“Sarfaraz is an unbelievable talent, for a 17-year-old kid to play like that at this level is unbelievable,” Wiese said at the pre-match press conference here.
“I think for him, the key is not to put too much expectation on himself. He needs to go out and do what he has been doing. He has been phenomenal for us in the season.
Khan first made headlines when he broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record in 2009, when he scored 439 runs in 421 balls in an inter-school match. Interestingly, he was only 12 years old at the time.

However the IPL is no domain of the purists but of the mad inventors that are taking the sport forward at an incredible rate of knots.
Sarfaraz showcased this in his impressive innings of 45 off just 21 balls, which featured six fours and a six. The highlight of his knock was a single off Faulkner, in which the 17-year-old deliberately played a reverse sweep with the back of his bat.
