Thiruvananthapuram: The ‘sanyasi’ Gangeshananda Theerthapada, also known as Hariswami who was recently hospitalized after the 23-year-old law student chopped off his genitals for repeatedly raping her since last 6yrs has been shifted to “Police cell” at the Government medical college today said the Police officials.
He was shifted to the special cell after a magistrate remanded him in custody until June 3 said the officials.
The 54-year-old accused who was believed to be a sanyasi is said to be recovering after he was attacked and suffered critical injuries and underwent an emergency surgery the Police said.
The woman has been shifted to Nirbhaya home a state-run shelter home.
The law student has told Police officials that she was being raped for the past six years by this fraud sanyasi and she did take this extreme step when he tried to repeat it on May 19.
The sanyasi Hariswami, has been visiting the woman’s house in Pettah for several years now on the pretext of performing yagna’s and pooja’s to bring relief to her paralyzed bed-ridden father said the student to the Police.
He raped her on his visit to the victim’s house in those years whenever he got the chance said the Police.
Police have registered a case under section 376 IPC (punishment for rape) and under other various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) against Hairswami.
Sparjan Kumar Commissioner of Police has said the woman’s parents have alleged that the sanyasi duped them of several lakhs of rupees.
“But they are yet to give any written complaint in this regard. So, no action has been taken so far”, said the City Police Commissioner.
Sparjan Kumar when asked about the media reports that stated the woman’s mother knew about the sanyasi’s acts, the Police Commissioner said the woman has not yet so far made any statement against her mother. He also dismissed reports that said the woman’s mother was taken into custody, as reported in dailyhunt.
