Sankranti in Hyderabad: Crowd scales down

Hyderabad, January 10: The Sankranti crowd has melted down to two films Businessman and Bodyguard. Nandamuri Tarakaratna has announced that his Nandiwarudu is also in the race.

Darwin’s theory of the fittest survives has to be relooked into as only the big ticket films land up for important occasions.

Ravi Teja’s Nippu and Sunil’s Poolangadu were shunted two weeks further. Post production work is something which can be done is a couple of days, as things were hurried up for Businessman, or can be done for weeks together. The delay in release for Sri Rama Raja was also attributed to delay in post production (graphics) works.

For Nippu and Poolarangadu as well the reason cited was the same. Somehow they made it up by scheduling the audio release during the festival.

Tasrakaratna, who comes from one of the big families of Tollywood, was resolute that he will release his picture for Pongal which takes the total number of films to three. As coincidence would have it Pongal is a three day festival.

Prodcuders’ Council went to Chief Minister with a representation stating that no dubbing film should be released for important festivals and small budget pictures getting postponed due to delay in post production works only the big banners remain in the race.

On the other side of the coin, there is small picture “Inkennallu” which has Telangana agitation as a backdrop and it could not get the desired theatres, number wise and area wise. The young actor-cum-producer is taking up politically complaining that 80 to 90 percent of the theatres are controlled by a handful of people in Tollywood and films are released and screened according to their own whims and fancies.

Some films run for 50 days even without crowds while some films do not get theatres, is what the hero of Inkennallu says.
