Former minister Sankar Rao got anticipatory bail.
Sankar Rao who is facing charges for his alleged involvement in the Green Fields land scam, is also facing a charge that he had obstructed the duties of the police.
On hearing the plea of the former minister’s lawyer that he was unwell, the Nampalli court issued him anticipatory bail.
It may be mentioned herre that Sankar Rao also abstained when the CID called him for questioning, citing ill health as the reason. His daughter appeared before the CID officials, in his place. Police who recently took him to the Neredmet police station for questioning, were caught in the vortex of a controversy. Apart from the opposition, several ruling party and Dalit organizations leaders criticized the government for the way the former minister and a Dalit was roughed up by the police. Sankar Rao later got himself admitted to a corporate hospital. His daughter filed a petition with the state human rights commission that her father was ill-treated.
