BJP leader Sanjay Joshi, who had earlier resigned from the national executive, today resigned from the party.
The BJP sources said Mr Joshi requested party national president Nitin Gadkari to ‘relieve’ him from party duties and Mr Gadkari has accepted his resignation.
However, sources close to Mr Joshi claimed that he requested Mr Gadkari only to ‘relieve’ him from the party’s Uttar Pradesh responsibility and not from primary membership.
The development has come after the poster controversy.
On Tuesday, pro-Sanjay Joshi and anti-Narendra Modi posters, had cropped up at prominent places in Ahemedabad and Delhi.
Mr Joshi said he had no idea about who had put up his posters and he came to know about the hoardings only through media and it was a job of mischievous elements.
He had resigned from the BJP national executive in Mumbai last month under the ‘pressure’ from the Gujarat Chief Minister.
