Sanitation workers protest outside GMC office

Ghaziabad: Sanitation workers of the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation, who were on strike for the past five days demanding a hike in their salary, today protested outside the GMC head office here.
The workers were demanding wages at par with other municipal corporations, regularization of casual workers and in case of accidental death of a worker, the job to the next of kin on compassionate grounds.
They also burnt the effigy of additional municipal commissioner D K Sinha outside the GNN head office here.
The protesters under the banner of Uttar Pradesh Rajya Safai Karmchari Sangh abstained from garbage collection and sanitation work in Kaila Bhattha and Vijay Nagar zone areas.
The Karmchari Sangh leader Pradeep Chauhan claimed that GNN is paying only Rs 7500 to daily wage casual sanitation worker whereas other municipal corporations are paying Rs 14,480.
A delegation of Karmchari Sangh will meet the district magistrate Vimal Kumar Sharma and submit their charter containing 17 demands, Chauhan added.
