New Delhi, June 03: The tiered skirts, side braids, tattooed faces and neon displays have been the highlight of the French Open this year, but that’s not it. Along with the ladies scoring full points on the fashion meter for their apparel, it’s their super short skirts that are hogging worldwide attention.
Maria Sharapova still looks strong to be ruling the spot of the hottest tennis star of the season, but it is our own Sania Mirza who is drawing eyeballs with her flapping short skirt.
Sania supporters may like to know her for her accomplishments as a tennis player, but there are many — including the Muslim clerics who issued a fatwa on the issue — who only identify her for her very short skirts and nonchalant display of assets on the tennis court.
Her entry into the doubles finals of the French Open along with partner Elena Vesnina is a celebratory moment for the country but it’s the upskirt and thigh show that is getting a tad bit much of attention.
Her provocative dressing has been a concern since the start of her career, when even her sleeveless T- shirts were considered to be ‘ un- Islamic’ and the skin show was slammed as a bad example being set for teenagers.
But it seems like nothing has changed for the 24- year- old. She is still playing confidently in her neon- frilled skirts, attracting limelight more for her clothes than for her tennis skills, yet again.
