Lucknow: Tennis star Sania Mirza on Oct 20 met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to discuss ways and means to promote tennis in the state.
The tennis star who has recently climbed new heights in her career today met the Chief Minister and discussed about development of sports, especially tennis in the state, an official spokesman said.
The Chief Minister, who was accompanied by his wife Dimple Yadav, apprised Sania that his government has taken several steps to promote sports and sportsmen in the state, he said.
The state has several talented tennis players and the government is serious in providing better infrastructural facilities and training to them to hone up their skills, Yadav told Mirza.
On the Chief Minister’s request, the tennis star promised to help coach budding tennis players from the state, the spokesman said. Discussions were also held on opening a tennis academy either in Lucknow or Noida for promoting the sport, he added.
