Paris: Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and her Swiss partner Martina Hingis kicked off their French Open campaign on a winning note as they battled into the second round of the tournament with straight sets victory in their women’s singles event on Wednesday.
The Indo-Swiss pair lost their serve thrice before bouncing back to record a 7-6(7-4), 6-2 win over Russian pair of Daria Kasatkina and Alexandra Panova in the opening round contest that lasted for one and a half hour.
Earlier this month, the top-ranked pair captured their 14th women’s doubles title together at the Italian Open in Rome.
In the men’s doubles event, India’s Rohan Bopanna and his Romanian partner Florin Mergea also surged into the second round after dismissing Frenchmen Stephane Robert and Alexandre Sidorenko 6-2, 6-2 in a one-sided contest that lasted for 56 minutes. (ANI)
