Sangma meets Vijayamma, seeks YSRC’s support

Former Lok Sabha Speaker and Presidential Candidate backed by AIADMK, BJD and BJP-led NDA, P A Sangma, today met YSR Congress Party Honourary Chairman Y S Vijayamma and sought her party’s support to him for the post of President.

Mr Sangma, who had gone to the Chanchalguda Central Jail in the morning, was denied an appointment with Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy whose judicial remand was extended till July 4 by the CBI Court in the disproportionate assets case against him, earlier in the day. The Jail authorities told Mr Sangma to speak to the YSR Congress party Chief at 1100 hrs. However, he went to the residence of Mr Jagan at Lotus Pond here and met his mother. Congratulating her on the impressive victory of YSR Congress Party Candidates in the by-polls held on June 12, Mr Sangma said, “I had sought the appointment of Mr Jagan a week ago.” Speaking to mediapersons later, he alleged that the jail authorities had shown discrimination towards him by not allowing him to meet Mr jagan.

He claimed that the AIMIM Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi was allowed to meet the Kadapa MP few days ago who sought his party’s support to the UPA-led Presidential Candidate Pranab Mukherjee. Mr Sangma came to Hyderabad in the second week of this month and met TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu and sought his party’s support. He is in the Andhra Pradesh Capital as part of his nationwide tour to muster support from political parties for his candidature. Meanwhile, YSR Congress Party leader M V Mysoora Reddy said the party would meet shortly to decide on supporting either Mr Mukherjee or Mr Sangma. UNI
