A white bread sandwich was hurled at Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard during a visit to a high school in Canberra, an incident she laughed off by saying the thrower “must have thought I was hungry”.
Ms Gillard was walking in a packed foyer of the Lyneham High School when the sandwich was thrown at her, according to media reports.
While she was making an announcement a salami sandwich was thrown by an unknown person.
“It was lobbed from behind, over the top of her head, and landed at her feet,” the report said.
This was the second such incident faced by Ms Gillard in recent weeks.
A 16-year-old Kyle student was suspended for 15 days for allegedly throwing a sandwich at Ms Gillard in Marsden State High School, south of Brisbane, early this month.
