Senior IPS officer Sandeep Shandilya has been appointed as the Chief of Special Investigation Team (SIT), which has been constituted to probe into the incident that lead to opening of fire by police on April 7 at Alair, Nalgonda District, in which five under trials were killed.
Shandilya is presently serving as the IG (Personnel) of Telangana Police. The other members of the SIT including Khammam SP Shanawaz Qasim, DSP (Intelligence Dept) M Dayanand Reddy, Madhapur ACP M Ramana Kumar, Chaderghat Inspector L Raja Venkat Reddy and Humayun Nagar Inspector S Ravinder.
“The Special Investigation Team (SIT) will undertake a thorough investigation to bring out the circumstances leading to the death of five under-trial prisoners while being brought from Central Prison, Warangal to Hyderabad city to attend Court on 7th April, 2015. The Special Investigation Team shall while investigating the case collect all necessary and relevant evidence and also bring out lapses if any. After completion of the investigation, the SIT will file its report in the Court of Law, having Jurisdiction,” the GO Ms No 184 issued by Chief Secretary Dr Rajiv Sharma said.
“In the fax message dated 07.04.2015, the IG Intelligence, TS, Hyderabad has informed about the death of five terror operatives viz., 1) Viquar Ahmed, 2) Syed Amjed, 3) Mohd. Zakir, 4) Mohd. Haneef and 5) Izhar Khan in an exchange of fire, when they tried to escape by snatching weapons from escort party and opening fire at them on 07.04.2015 morning between Jangaon and Aleru, while they were proceeding to Hyderabad for court trial in Nampally Court in Cr.No. 87/2010 of Hussaini Alam PS/SIT CCS, Hyderabad. The said incident has been registered under Cr.No. 35/2015 u/s 120/B, 143,147,397,307,224,332 r/w 149 IPC & sec 25(1), 27 Arms Act, 176 Cr.P.C of Alair PS, Nalgonda District Telangana State,” according to the GO.
The State Government claimed that the SIT has been constituted under the Criminal Procedure Code as the case requires sustained and focused investigation. (INN)
