Bushehr, July 08: Fresh sanctions imposed by the UN on Iran over its uranium enrichment can slow but not halt the country’s atomic programme, the head of the Iranian nuclear initiative has said.
‘You can’t say that the sanctions won’t have an effect,’ state news agency quoted Ali Akbar Salehi, who heads the Iranian nuclear initiative, as saying Wednesday.
Iran is considering the construction of three to five new nuclear reactor facilities, which could be located at Bushehr or elsewhere.
The country claims that its programme is aimed at electricity production and medical research.
‘If the sanctions have the aim of stopping Iran’s nuclear activities, we can say they will be slowed, but not stopped. This is certain.’
