Samajwadi Party trying to cover up truth in Mathura clashes: BJP

Lucknow: BJP today accused the ruling Samajwadi Party of trying to cover up the truth in the Mathura clashes that left 29 people dead, and said the judicial inquiry instituted into the incident was not acceptable to it.

“Like Muzaffarnagar riots, the state government wants to cover up the Jawahar Bagh incident,” BJP state president Keshav Prasad Maurya said in a statement here.

“A cache of arms was recovered from the spot. Brave police officers along with 27 others were killed. The government wants to cover up the truth,” he claimed.

Maurya alleged that by conducting a judicial inquiry into Muzaffarnagar riots, the government managed to save the real culprits.

“Similarly, to hide Jawahar Bagh incident the government has appointed retired judge Justice Imitiyaz Murtaza for judicial inquiry,” he claimed.

Demanding a probe either by CBI or a sitting judge of the High Court, the BJP president questioned why the government was shying away from inquiry by the agency.
