Ballia, May 02: Senior Samajwadi Party leader and former state Minister Shardanand Anchal died here today following a massive heart attack.
According to family members, the leader complained of chest pain at Belsa Road railway station here when he was on his way to his residence nearby. He was immediately rushed to Mau for treatment, but he died on way to the hospital.
The SP leader had represented Siar Assembly constituency in Ballia district for four times. He was Minister of State for Cooperatives during the Mulayam Singh’s regime in Uttar Pradesh. He is survived by three son.
Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav and state party president Akhilesh Yadav expressed their grief over the sudden demise of the leader.
In their condolence message, Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav said Anchal was the backbone of the party in Balia and was a dedicated party leader. ”His death is a great loss to the party,” he added.
Mr Akhilesh Yadav in his condolence message said the SP leader’s demise will certainly make a gap in the party leadership in the eastern Uttar Pradesh.
The SP supremo is also likely to rush to Balia to pay last respects to the departed leader, according to party sources.
Several other party leaders including Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly Shivpal Singh Yadav and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Ahmed Hassan also expressed their condolence on the leader’s demise.
