‘Salman’s friends have taken advantage of him’

Mumbai, September 12: The last couple of years have been very eventful for Govinda both as an actor as well as an individual. From a flagging career — where everyone in the industry had written him off — Govinda bounced back landing hits first with Partner and now with Life Partner.

From an individual point of view, he lost almost 20 kgs from 100 kilos, which he used to weigh earlier, and is looking fit and dapper.

“I was not happy with the way I looked and realised that I had to become fit. I again wanted to become consistent in the industry. I have tasted many hits and now I’m hungry for more,” says the actor, who has around nine movies lined up for release.

Moreover, the actor has pleased Mani Ratnam so much with his work that the film-maker has gone back to his writing board to rework and extend his role in Raavan.

“Originally I had just four scenes in the movie. But Mani liked my work and he is now reworking the script to fit me in the entire movie. I did not expect this to happen. It is a great thing for me that a director of his calibre trusts my work,” says Govinda.

With his career curve on the rise, Govinda is planning to take some calculated risks as well. The actor has been trying to revive his production house Govinda Entertainment Private Limited, a company that had last funded a movie titled Ssukh in 2005. He has concrete plans of reviving the firm.

“I’m pumping in money for my production company and the logistics are being worked out. All the plans are set to make the company have a great comeback in a few months. I’m also expanding my company and opening offices in the UK and US but I’ll never be a solo producer. I am looking at teaming up with corporate houses and people with huge amount of experience to make quality entertainment movies. I think partner (referring to his film with Salman Khan) is a lucky word for me and I’ll get into partnerships,” he says.
And will Salman Khan, who is credited with resurrecting his career, be his partner in this venture too?

“Salman Khan is a great guy. All his friends have taken advantage of him and he has let them do it willingly. I cannot tell you all the plans that I have for the company,” he says.
