Salman Khurshid raises red flag over Metro station at Jamia

Law Minister Salman Khurshid has raised a red flag over Metro station coming up near Jamia Millia Islamia University in Jamia Nagar. He cited the reasons that setting up of metro station near Jamia will pose a threat to sanctity and security of Jamia Millia Islamia the very important and historical institution.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation ( DMRC) has a proposal of setting up a Metro station at Jamia Nagar on the upcoming Janakpuri to Kalindi Kunj corridor. The proposal has become a cause to worry for Jamia Millia Islamia University which wanted the corporation to rethink its proposal as it will divide the university campus. The university left no stone unturned to convince the DMRC to drop the idea. Besides approaching DMRC it wrote letters to Union urban development minister Kamal Nath and chief minister Sheila Dikshit to intervene into the matter.

University officials said the proposed station will pose a security threat to girl students and also to 2,000 students from the three schools run by Jamia.

Raising a red flag over the proposal, the Law Minister Salman Khurshid has demanded Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal’s intervention to save the sanctity of the Jamia. He asserted that opening up the heart of the university to a station would lead to enormous problems of security as well as sanctity of the university campus.
