Sale of books and uniform in Schools – Commercial Tax Department issues notices

Sale of books and uniforms in private schools will now be under the scanner of Commercial Tax Department. It has issued notices to such schools for paying VAT. In case of violation fines will be imposed.

It may be noted that district administration had already issued instructions that forceful sale of books and uniforms by the school management is unlawful. Despite these instructions some of the managements are still selling these things. Commercial Tax Department contends that if anything is sold, payment of VAT is compulsory.
