Saffron terror remark due to rivalry in Cong: BJP

New Delhi, September 03: With divisions in the Congress over the saffron terror theory out in the open, the BJP on Thursday seized the opportunity to argue that Home Minister P Chidambaram’s controversial remark was borne out of “personal rivalry” and “gross oneupmanship” between leaders of the ruling party.

“Owing to personal rivalry and gross oneupmanship, the Congress should not shame the saffron, which represents the cultural and civilisational heritage of India and the spirit of valour,” BJP chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said. Saffron has become a casualty in the conflict of egos between Chidambaram and senior Congress leaders, he added.

Referring to Chidambaram’s statement that he can’t claim patent over the phrase, Prasad said the Home Minister should know that the people of India have patent over saffron for ages. “Swami Vivekanand exalted the world in Chicago wearing saffron robes. Adi Sankaracharya travelled across India wearing saffron. Today all saints wear saffron,” he said.
