New Delhi, August 27: The opposition Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena created ruckus in the Upper House of the Parliament on Friday over Home Minister P Chidambaram’s remark on ‘Saffron Terror’.
The members of BJP and Shiv Sena demanded clarification from Chidambaram over the issue.
The uproar over Chidambaram’s recent ‘saffron terror’ remarks-led two brief adjournments of the House till noon.
As soon as the House commenced the business on Friday, Shiv Sena member Manohar Joshi raised the issue of the Home Minister’s statement at the conference of Directors General and Inspectors General of Police in New Delhi.
Joshi asked Chidambaram to clarify the names of people involved in the ‘Bhagwa’ terrorism. He further said that there is no existence of Saffron Terrorism and Chidambaram should clear the air over his remark.
Joshi received ably support from the BJP MPs, who started shouting slogans “Hinduo Ka Apman Nahi Chalega (Hindus insult will not be tolerated).
Chairman Hamid Ansari appealed to members to allow the question hour but BJP members rushed to well after Ram Vilas Paswan named RSS link with saffron party.
BJP members started protest and shouted slogans “RSS ka apman nahi chalega”.
Paswan supported Chidambaram’s remark and described him as responsible minister.
Paswan also demanded to ban VHP, Bajrang Dal and RSS. He said that the association of these outfits with saffron terrorism a are beyond doubt and they should be dealt firmly.
Chidambaram woos Muslims with ‘Saffron Terror’?
Interestingly, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram’s Bhagwa Atank (Saffron Terror) remark comes at a crucial stage when verdict in Babri mosque demolition case is slated for September 15 and Bihar assembly elections are on the cards sometime in October-November.
The Opposition BJP and its associates are on backfoot after the ‘Saffron Terror’ remark as Chidambaram’s statement is seemed to be aimed on wooing Muslim votes for the party.
Earlier, Chidambaram on Wednesday cautioned the chiefs of State police and security and intelligence officials against the phenomenon of “saffron terrorism.” He asked top cops to be vigilant against rise of saffron terror.
