The Sports Injury Centre (SIC) at the Safdarjung Hospital has been approved as a referral centre for elite Indian athletes selected for the next Olympic Games.
A decision in this regard was taken recently at a meeting which included all the sports federations of the country.
The SIC was selected as the referral centre by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for all its national and international events, said the centre’s director, Dr. Deepak Chaudhary.
The centre is fully equipped and trained to handle all cases of injuries to the athletes selected for the Olympics.
Dr. Chaudhary added that his centre will start a dedicated Out Patient Department (OPD) exclusively for sports persons and added that it will help them in getting specialized and personalized treatment without any hassles.
The number of beds in the centre is also likely to be increased from 35 to 44 this year. The centre has recently recruited new permanent faculty.
SIC is one of only three centres in India approved by International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee surgery and Orthopaedic Sports medicine (ISAKOS) as an approved teaching and training centre for young surgeons. (ANI)
