Saddam’s torture doctor works in Britain

London, July 03: A doctor, who worked for the Iraqi Intelligence Agency and was responsible for torturing the Iraqis, has been working in Britain’s hospitals for seven years.

In yet another step taken by the British government to support the world war criminals, the UK border officials allowed Mohammed Kassim Al-Byati to enter the country in 2000. He was later given a permit by the Labour government in 2004 to work as a doctor in the NHS, treating thousands of British patients.

While Saddam Hussein was in power, Al-Byati was an agent of the notorious Iraqi Intelligence Agency, patching up the torture victims so that they would be subjected to more treatment.

As he wanted to claim asylum in Britain, Al-Byati contacted the Home Office in 2007 in order to explain his shocking past. In the meantime, the government did not halt his medical profession and allowed him to go on earning thousands of pounds treating UK nationals at a hospital in Wales.

Yet now, after being publicly revealed that he was a dictator’s torture doctor and his case was referred to a specialist war crimes unit, the General Medical Council allowed him to keep working in the West Midlands.

The report has only seemingly “horrified” Home Secretary Theresa May, who has launched an urgent inquiry, seeking to make changes to the rules to stop similar problems.

According to a senior source, “The Home Secretary was horrified to find out that this has been allowed to carry on for so long. She dragged the acting chief executive into her office and he got the hairdryer treatment.”

“We always knew that Labour let the immigration system get out of control but we were genuinely stunned. The Home Secretary is seriously considering having a review of the way the entire agency works,” the source added.

She was reported to be frustrated by slow answers from the GMC, which is responsible for checking doctor’s background.

“We have recently become aware of concerns regarding this doctor,” GMC officials stated last night.

UK Border Agency’s (UKBA) spokesman said, “Those who commit crimes against humanity deserve to face justice and we do everything we can to remove them so that this can happen.

“Where we cannot remove them due to the Human Rights Act, we will introduce a new immigration status that restricts their right to work and that allows for their speedy removal should circumstances change.”
