The Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Yatra Commemoration Committee has decided to confer Sadbhavana Award to Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad on the occasion of silver jubilee year of Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Yatra.
Speaking to media persons here, Committee president G. Niranjan and General Secretary Yousuf Hashmi informed that the Award would be presented to Ghlam Nabi Azad at a function to be held at Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Yatra Pole at historic Charminar on 19th October. They said Azad was selected for the award in recognition of his services to the nation and his three-and-half decade association with our State and Hyderabad.
They reminded that Rajiv Gandhi had undertaken Sadbhavan Yatra in the country at a time when the country was torn by conflicts based on caste and religion. Rajiv Gandhi hoisted the Congress party flag at historic Charminar and commenced his Sadbhavana Yatra in twin cities on 19th October, 1990. (INN)
