Chandigarh (Punjab): Senior SAD leader and former Cabinet minister Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal is SAD-BJP alliance candidate for the Lok Sabha election from Ludhiana constituency.
His candidature was announced by SAD president and former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday.
Harcharan Bains, the advisor to Badal, said that the names of the remaining candidates would be announced shortly.
With the announcement of Grewal’s name, the SAD has so far announced eight of its ten candidates from Punjab. Its alliance partner, BJP is contesting on remaining three seats — Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Hoshiarpur.
Grewal, a senior Akali stalwart with a strong ‘Panth’ image, enjoys a wide secular base.
The party was earlier mulling to field district president Ranjit Singh Dhillon from Ludhiana seat.
Thirteen Lok Sabha constituencies in Punjab will vote on May 19 in the last phase of the election. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
