Sack corrupt ministers or go, Rayapati tells CM

New Delhi, October 11: A day ahead of his meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi, chief minister K Rosaiah had moments of embarrassment when Congress MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao pointed out that at least now he should reconstitute his cabinet or step down as chief minister.

When reporters pointed out to him the Guntur Lok Sabha member’s observation, Rosaiah appeared a little annoyed but steered clear of any controversy. He said he had come to Delhi to meet the party president. After meeting her, if there is any “sweet news,” he would let it be known.

Earlier, Rao, who has a running feud with industries minister K Lakshminarayana, wanted the chief minister to secure approval from the party president to sack ‘corrupt and defiant’ ministers from his cabinet and ‘if he cannot do that, he should step down from his position’.

He said it was high time that Rosaiah acted firmly with ministers who were not listening to him. “If he does not do a complete catharsis of the cabinet, the party would have to face a difficult time in future,” he pointed out.

According to sources, Rao apparently realised his mistake of talking too much and is trying to meet the chief minister tomorrow to explain to him that he did not mean causing discomfiture to him but was only trying to make a suggestion to him.
