Sachin Pilot confident of victory in Rajasthan polls

Jaipur: Moments after casting his vote for the Rajasthan Assembly elections in Jaipur, Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Thursday stated he is confident that his party will sweep the elections by bagging majority of the votes.

Answering a question on Congress’ chief ministerial candidate, Pilot quickly replied, “We will sit and discuss this after our party gets a majority in the election.”

While speaking to reporters, the 41-year-old Congress leader claimed that “the current Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state has done very little to uplift the poor and farmers in the society” and added “residents of the state are very disappointed from their failures”.

In his concluding remark, Pilot reiterated, “On the day of results, the Congress party, led by Rahul Gandhi, will form the government and people will feel that its own government which has come to power”.

In Rajasthan, polling began at 8 in the morning and will conclude at 5 pm. More than 4.74 crore voters are exercising their franchise, which includes over 20 lakh voters who will cast their vote for the first time.

The Election Commission had set up as many as 52,000 polling booths, including at least one all-women booth in each constituency for the smooth and peaceful voting.

2,274 candidates including 187 women are in the fray for 199 out of total 200 assembly seats in the state. Polling in Alwar constituency has been postponed after the death of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate.

The counting of votes will be held on December 11.
