Kolkata, March 07: Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram was
effusive in his praise for Sachin Tendulkar for scoring the
first double century in ODI history, and said the batting maestro is ”just great in setting records”.
”This achievement is all the more creditable as he earned
it against a team like South Africa,” said Akram, who is the
bowling consultant of Kolkata Knight Riders.
The former Pakistan fast bowler, however, didn’t want to compare
Sachin with Sir Donald Bradman as he believes they are greats of two
different eras.
But he couldn’t stop himself praising the Indian master blaster
for the incredible against South Africa in the second of the
three-match series.
”But there is no doubt that Sachin is one of the greatest
batsmen ever. It is evident from the fact that he is the highest
run getter both in Tests and one day internationals. He is just
great in setting records.
”The commitment and passion Sachin displayed in the field is
indeed a rare example,” Akram said.
Recalling his playing days against Tendulkar, ”As a batsman
Sachin is absolutely perfect and it is very difficult to plan any
strategy against him and get him trapped.”
