Sabyasachi to show glamorous evening wear at LFW finale

New Delhi: Sabyasachi Mukherjee, the grand finale designer for the winter-festive 2016 edition of the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW), will showcase a line-up of red carpet clothing, bridal wear as well eastern and western separates apt as glamorous evening wear, at the gala.

The forthcoming edition will take place at St Regis here August 24-28. Sabyasachi’s show will be inspired by Lakmé’s beauty statement for the season – “Illuminate”, a theme that is often mirrored in a signature Sabyasachi design.

“I am working with Lakme once again to create a spectacular collection for the Lakme grand finale. It’s inspired by the trend for the year – ‘Illuminate’ which is all about shimmer and luminosity.

“You will see a lot of sophisticated red carpet clothing, bridal wear, eastern and western separates, all of them will be glamorous evening wear done with intricate hand work,” Mukherjee told IANS. The designer will showcase three different stories through his line with some garments taking inspiration from places like Afghanistan, Iran and Kashmir.

“There will be three different stories running together to form one collection, first one being inspired by the night clubs in Paris in the 1920’s, second will be Bauhaus school of strict architecture and the third story will be Firdaus which is my current couture collection which is celebration of finest quality of needle craft from all across the world especially from Persia, Afghanistan, and Kashmir,” he said.

The designer, who had made his fashion runway debut at Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) in 2002, emphasised that his new show will be “extremely grand but yet very simple.” Purnima Lamba, Head of Innovation at Lakmé, is also excited to see the designer’s creativity on ramp.

“Sabyasachi’s creations mirror his roots, and we are proud to be associated with someone so extraordinarily talented. We have worked together in the past to create some truly memorable looks. This year with ‘Illuminate’ we can all expect to be awed by the sheer glory he will bring to the finale,” she said.
