Sabarimala row: SC refuses early hearing of review petitions

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to conduct an early hearing of review petitions against its verdict allowing entry of women of all ages into Kerala’s Sabarimala Temple.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi said that the temple will be open for 24 hours on November 5 and 6, adding that the court has already fixed the matter for hearing after November 11.

The Sabarimala Temple and surrounding areas witnessed a string of protests recently over the Supreme Court’s decision to quash restrictions on the entry of women between the ages of 10 and 50 into the holy shrine.

As many as 3505 protestors have been arrested so far in connection with the violence that broke out in the state, while around 529 cases were registered across the state as on Sunday.
