Mumbai (Maharashtra): Former Indian Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar on Monday has been appointed as the new president of Tata Sons’ global corporate affairs.
In his new role, Jaishankar will be responsible for the group’s global corporate affairs, international strategy development, and functioning of the company’s international offices.
He will also work with Tata companies to help them strengthen their business presence and positioning in their respective geographies globally.
“I am delighted to welcome Dr Jaishankar to the Tata group. His extensive experience and knowledge on international affairs will be very valuable to the group as we work to reinforce our brand and leadership globally,” said Tata Sons Chairman, N. Chandrasekaran.
Jaishankar joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in 1977 holding key roles during his career including stints as High Commissioner to Singapore, Ambassador to China and the United States. He also played a key role in negotiating the Indo-US civilian nuclear agreement.
An alumnus of Delhi’s St Stephen’s College and Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jaishankar served as India’s foreign secretary from January 2015 to January 2018, after which he was succeeded by senior diplomat Vijay Keshav Gokhale. (ANI)
