International Airport police on thursday arrested a Russian woman and her friend for possessing a satellite mobile phone. However, they were released after completing the legal formalities.
The police arrested Volga D, 51, and her friend after a satellite mobile phone was found in their bag. Volga told the police that she was unaware of the Indian law that bans carrying such a set.
A fine of Rs 100 was imposed on them and produced them before the court which released them, said the police.
According to police, they had come to an ayurvedic hospital in Kasaragod in Kerala a month ago for treatment. They reached the Kempegowda International Airport on Wednesday night as they were scheduled to depart for Delhi from where they wanted to board a flight back to Russia.
Russia allows the usage of such phone
The Russian government permits its citizens to use a mobile satellite phone, that’s why Volga had bought a mobile satellite phone.
During a security check, Central Industrial Security Force sleuths recovered the phone and straight away alerted the police who rushed to the spot and detained the two.
Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, bans the usage of such phones. Anybody with such a phone could access sensitive data. The police grew suspicious and questioned them.
