Dubai, September 04: An unemployed Russian has been sentenced to prison for three years after a court found him guilty of threatening to kill a female and helping his compatriot associate to rape her at knifepoint.
Prosecutors said the female, V.P., accused the 25-year-old Russian suspect of threatening to kill her if she reported her ordeal to the police.
The Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday jailed the defendant, M.A., for three years. Presiding Judge Hamad Abdul Latif Abdul Jawad said the accused will be deported after serving his sentence.
The Public Prosecution charged M.A. with aiding and abetting his compatriot, C.F., in his assault and rape of V.P.
C.F. is currently serving a three-year sentence for his crime.
M.A. was also charged with stealing Dh3,600 and $1,500 (Dh5,505) from V.P.’s purse.
Medical reports confirmed that M.A. did not have intercourse with the victim.
According to prosecutors, V.P. testified that the incident happened shortly after she was in the defendants’ vehicle.
“[We went for a drive] & suddenly they stopped and C.F. asked me to give him money, but I refused. Instantly, he … [threatened me with a knife] … and asked to sleep with me and when I refused he slapped me. He threatened to kill me if I failed to obey him. M.A. prevented me from running away meanwhile C.F. forced himself on me,” she said.
