New Delhi [India]: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey V. Lavrov arrived in New Delhi on Sunday to attend 15th Russia-India-China (RIC) foreign ministers’ meeting.
Earlier, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also arrived in New Delhi on Sunday to participate in the trilateral meeting scheduled to be held on Monday.
This is the first high-level visit from China to India since the two sides decided to disengage their troops from Bhutan’s Doklam plateau after months-long stand-off.
Tensions rose between the two countries when China began constructing a road in the plateau at Sikkim-Bhutan-Tibet tri-junction.
The meeting, which will also be attended by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, is expected to review global and regional issues of mutual interest as well as discuss trilateral exchanges and activities.
A joint communique is expected to be released following the meeting.
Lavrov and Wang are also expected to call on President Ram Nath Kovind and have bilateral meetings with Swaraj.
During the visit, Lavrov will also deliver a public lecture at Vivekanand International Foundation today on the subject ‘Global Affairs and new vistas of Russia-India cooperation’ while Wang would be gracing an India-China cultural evening at Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra on Tuesday evening. (ANI)
