The rupee strengthened by 12 paise to 61.80 against the dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market today on increased selling of the US currency by exporters and banks amid persistent foreign capital inflows.
Forex dealers said besides increased selling of the American currency by exporters and banks, the dollar’s weakness against other currencies overseas, supported the rupee.
A higher opening in the domestic equity market also strengthened the rupee, they added.
The rupee had ended one paisa down at 61.92 against the greenback yesterday.
Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex rose 88.93 points or 0.31 per cent to 28,651.75 in early trade today.
