Rupee Hits 67-Mark, Tanks 29 Paise Against Dollar

Mumbai: The rupee again hit the 67-mark against the US dollar after plunging 29 paise in early trade on Monday on sustained demand for the American currency from importers and bankers amid a lower opening in the domestic equity market.

The dollar was firm against some global currencies which also weighed on the rupee, dealers said.

On Friday, the local currency ended 5 paise lower at 66.76 a dollar on persistent demand for the US dollar from banks and importers and weakness in equities.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex fell by 263.24 points or 0.98 per cent to 26,372.51 in early trade.
