Rupee ends steady at 45.81/82; pares initial gains

Mumbai, March 04: Retreating from its six-week highs, the Indian rupee today held steady at 45.81/82 per dollar on demand from importers and banks following recovery in the American currency in overseas market.

The rupee resumed strong at 45.76/77 per dollar against the yesterday’s close on persistent selling of the greenback by exporters only to pare gains to close at 45.81/82 on fresh demand due to firm dollar in overseas market.

The dollar gained around 0.25 per cent against a basket of currencies while the euro slipped before a European Central Bank meeting.

Meanwhile, oil slid toward USD 80 today in the London Market as the dollar strengthened, dragging fuel prices off seven-week highs after news of another build in U.S. crude inventories.

The Indian benchmarch sensex also failed to maintain its last 3-day winning spree by falling 28.31 points or 0.17 per cent. .
