Mumbai, July 01: The Indian rupee ended 14 paise lower at 46.58/59 against the US dollar today on fresh dollar demand from banks, despite the weakness of the American currency overseas amid a fall in global stock markets.
At the Interbank Foreign Exchange market, the domestic currency opened lower at 46.68/69 per dollar from the overnight closing level of 46.44/45 per dollar.
It dropped further to 46.79 per dollar before ending the day at 46.58/59 per dollar. The rupee moved in a range of 46.49 to 46.79 against the dollar during the day.
The Indian benchmark Sensex ended lower by 192 points, or 1.08 per cent, on the back of a fall in stock markets worldwide.
Asian stocks ended lower after Chinese manufacturing growth slowed and Moody’s Investors Service placed Spain’s credit rating on review for a possible downgrade, fuelling concerns over the strength of the global economy.
