Rupee down 7 paise at 46.56/57 against dollar

Mumbai, June 15: The Indian rupee snapped its 3-day gaining streak to end seven paise lower at 46.56/57 against the US dollar.

Initially, the Indian rupee resumed lower at 46.58/60 per dollar, before dropping further to 46.76 per dollar. It had ended at 46.49/50 per dollar yesterday.

However, it recovered afterwards to 46.51 per dollar on selling of dollars by exporters before finishing at 46.56/57 per dollar.

According to forex dealers, the rupee weakened against the American currency on good dollar demand from banks and importers in view of the firm dollar overseas, despite the persistent rise in domestic equity markets. The Indian benchmark Sensex firmed up further by 75 points, or 0.43 per cent, today.
