Rupee up by 13 paise against dollar

Mumbai, September 20: The rupee continued to rule firm for fourth trading session today gaining 13 paise against the US currency on dollar selling by banks and corporates amid bullish equity markets.

At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the rupee closed 13 paise higher at 45.70/71 a dollar.

Hectic selling of dollar by banks and exporters amid sustained capital inflows mainly boosted the rupee value against the dollar, dealers said.

Weakness in dollar in the overseas market was also another factor behind the rupee rise, they added.

In London, the dollar slipped broadly on speculation that the Federal Reserve may flag the need to inject more stimulus into the struggling US economy when it announces its policy tomorrow.

The rupee opened slightly lower at 45.86/87 a dollar from previous closing level of 45.83/84 a dollar. But it immediately recovered to 45.
