Hyderabad, December 14: The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) suffered an estimated loss of a little more than Rs. 20 crore on account of the two-day bandh in the Andhra and Rayalaseema districts, said Executive Director P. Narayanaswamy late on Sunday evening.
On Sunday, buses were not taken out of the depots in Anantapur and Kadapa districts, while in Kurnool and Chittoor districts only 20 per cent of services were operated. In Ongole and Nellore, it was about 60 per cent, while in Guntur, Krishna, East and West Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, 70 per cent of services were operated, he said. The average operational revenues of the corporation that runs 21,435 buses is around Rs. 13.5 crore a day, of which the Vijayawada, Vizianagaram, Kadapa and Nellore regions of the corporation contribute Rs. 7.8 crore per day by operating 11,270 buses a day, with the rest coming in from the Telangana districts where 9,165 buses are run. The loss due to services being hit on Sunday alone was estimated at Rs. 4 crore, taking the total loss to over Rs. 20 crore.
While the APSRTC’s Vijayawada and Vizianagaram regions cover Guntur, Krishna, West and East Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts, Kadapa and Nellore regions cover Kadapa, Kurnool, Anantapur, Chittoor, Nellore and Prakasam districts, Mr. Narayanaswamy said.
