RTC losses put at Rs 300 Cr

Hyderabad, December 23 (INN): Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation Managing Director B Prasad Rao on Thursday stated that the corporation has suffered losses to the tune of Rs 300 crore this financial year.

He was speaking as the chief guest in the prize distribution programme of employees, who reached mileage efficiency target, held under the aegis of Ashok Leyland company at RTC Kalabhavan near RTC cross roads. The RTC MD attributed the financial loss to the general strike of employees in Telangana region and agitations and dharnas across the state. He also low occupancy rate in RTC buses was another factor that caused heavy losses. He said that the RTC has been suffering losses of Rs 1 per kilometer.

Prasad Rao said that there was no question of paying salary to the employees who participated in the general strike demanding Telangana state, in the month of September as the corporation has already paid salary advance for them.

Following directions from the Supreme Court, he said the RTC would call fresh tenders for high security registration plates soon.

The Managing director felicitated 1028 drivers for maintaining better fuel efficiency and awarded prizes. (INN)
