RTC to introduce GPRS in 12,185 buses

As part of initiative to provide better service to the commuters, the State Road transport Corporation plans to introduce Vehicle Tracking and Passenger Information System in 12,185 buses covering all major cities.

Talking to media persons at Bus Bhavan in RTC Cross Roads, RTC Managing Director B Prasada Rao informed that Vehicle Tracking and Passenger Information System would receive information from the bus through GPRS and based on the software installed in the Central server the Estimated Time Arrival (ETA) of bus would be displayed on the LCD.

He said that the ETA would be made available to commuters through internet, SMS and call centre of RTC.

Apart from this, he said that the tickets issuing machines with GSM/GPRS facility would be integrated in the project for online updation of details of tickets issued and availability of seats. He said that this facility would be introduced first time in major cities covering 800 bus shelters in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Hyderabad.

Based on the response, he said that this system would be extended across the State. (INN)
