RTC to introduce 1,540 eco-friendly CNG buses

Hyderabad, October 02: The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) will construct 20 bus depots and 152 bus stations on the Outer Ring road (ORR), according to P Narayana Swamy, executive director of the Greater Hyderabad zone.

Speaking on the occasion of attaining superannuation, Narayana Swamy said 1,540 new buses had been allocated to the city under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and 1,392 buses were already sanctioned.

He said buses sanctioned under the scheme were eco-friendly as they run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). The buses would have fast pickup, comfortable seating pattern, more leg space, fashionable look and digital destination boards, according to Swamy.

“We are also planning to construct new bus depots in various places in the Hyderabad zone. The government has sanctioned three bus depots in Himayathnagar, Miyapur and Musheerabad.

Zone officials had requested for sanction of at least 16 new depots,” he said. To build the bus depots on ORR, RTC of ficials had acquired land with assistance of the Hyderabad Metro Development Authority (HMDA) and construction works had been initiated, he added.

Narayana Swamy joined the organisation as an assistant works manager. He served as a divisional manager in Khammam, regional manager in Nizamabad and chief controller of stores. He was promoted to the post of executive director in 2007.

Later, union leaders and employees of the Jubilee Bus Station felicitated Narayana Swamy in his chamber.
