Hyderabad, February 09: Killer RTC buses have claimed yet another student’s life in the city. An Intermediate student was crushed to death by a speeding RTC bus at Dilsukhnagar on Monday afternoon, sparking protests from locals and students who pelted stones on the bus damaging its windows. They reportedly also thrashed the driver for rash driving.
The bus, on its way to Vijayawada from Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station, knocked down a college student at Dilsukhnagar bus stand. An Intermediate first-year student of Siddhartha Junior College at Dilsukhnagar, A Sandhya (16) was on her way home after attending classes when the incident took place. Sandhya was a resident of Bhagat Singh Nagar in Dilsukhnagar.
“Sandhya came out of the college and was crossing the road to the Dilsukhnagar-II bus stand when the bus knocked her down. The bus was entering the Dilsukhnagar bus stand when it ran over the girl,” Malakpet police sub-inspector M Venkateshwar Goud said.
Irate over rash driving, hundreds of students and passers-by allegedly thrashed the driver and later pelted stones on the bus. RTC staff present in the bus stand reportedly came to the rescue of the driver and took him away to safety. Malakpet police said they are yet to take the driver into custody. A case under Section 304A (rash and negligent act leading to death) was registered against the driver.
