New Delhi, May 04: The RSS today came out with a curious statement rubbishing reports that it had links with the Ajmer blast but at the same time said an accused person whom it did not name has been stripped off all responsibilities in the Sangh with immediate effect.
The RSS did not throw more light on a one-page statement issued by its general secretary Suresh Soni when clarifications were sought.
Soni dimissed media reports linking the Sangh founthead with the Ajmer blast on October 12, 2007 in which three persons were killed.
But, at the same time, he said the “accused individual” in this incident has been “relieved of all responsibilities with immediate effect” by concerned regional office holders of the Sangh. He did not name the person.
“Having faith in the impartiality of the investigations (into the Ajmer blast), Sangh office-bearers of the concerned region have announced that the accused person has been relieved of all responsibilities with immediate effect,” Soni said.
“The Sangh strongly condemns attempts to spread rumours through some newspaper reports that it was linked to the blasts,” Soni said.
The Sangh and BJP leaders have maintained that Devendra Gupta, arrested by Rajasthan ATS in the Ajmer blast, at present has no links with the RSS.
“RSS always has faith in the Constitution. Sangh will neither empathise with nor patronise illegal and violent activities,” Soni said.
RSS has demanded that proper investigation into the role of the accused persons should be done and legal action taken but the innocent should not be harassed.
BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu denied that his party was reluctant to condemn the Ajmer and Malegaon blasts, in which Hindu rightwing activists were accused.
“A terrorist is a terrorist. He has no religion. Whether it is the Mecca masjid blast or Malegaon or Gokul Chaat or Lumbini Park (both in Hyderabad). The accused should be shown no mercy,” Naidu said.
