Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) affiliate, Dharma Jagran Manch (DJM), organized a `ghar wapsi’ programme for Sikhs near Amritsar on Tuesday.
40 people were reconverted from Christianity to Sikhism including women and children. Under the aegis of RSS wing, in the year 2014 over 700 poor families have marked their ghar wapsi in Amritsar district alone
The converts claimed that they were Mazhabi Sikhs belonging to the SC community before they embraced Christianity.
The function was held at Guru Ki Wadali near Amritsar, the birth place of sixth Sikh Guru Hargobind Sahib.
No major Sikh organization or functionary attend the function.
Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal his son and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh has already slammed all the ghar wapsi events at Fatehgarh Sahib on Saturday. This will adversely affect the already strained ties.
Some local Sikh residents questioned the gurdwara management on why Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) was not informed. Like earlier, this time too they had informed the SGPC, claimed Dinesh Sharma of DJM.
“I don’t believe they were Christians, had they known their religion they would never done so,” said Bishop of Amritsar P K Samantaroy.
