New Delhi, August 29: In the midst of reports that senior BJP leader L K Advani may have to quit soon, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat today held a meeting with his bete noire Murli Manohar Joshi to discuss internal squabbles in the party and the road ahead. The meeting, held at Joshi”s residence, came at a time when BJP is grappling with a virtual war of succession among its second rung leaders, even as senior BJP leader L K Advani has reportedly got hints from RSS that his time is up.
Joshi, a former party president who is considered close to Bhagwat and the RSS, had hinted soon after BJP”s drubbing in the Lok Sabha polls that Advani should not become Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. He had then suggested that Advani could replace Atal Bihari Vajpayee as NDA chairperson and walk into virtual retirement.
While there are reports that Advani may put his campleaders in top positions before he quits, today”s meeting between Joshi and Bhagwat shows RSS may still be undecided over the issue. Meanwhile, senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj held a meeting with Advani to discuss the state of affairs in the party.
