RSS chief, Maha energy minister lead tree plantation drive

Nagpur: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and Maharashtra Energy Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule today led the people of the city in a tree plantation drive launched across the state.

Bhagwat planted a sapling near the RSS headquarters at Mahal in eastern part of the city, while Bawankule and other senior officials along with 10,000 children planted saplings in Ambajhari lake catchment area this morning.

Senior RSS functionary Dattatreya Hosabale later said the Sangh will be a part of the green drive and plant large number of trees throughout the year across the country through its units (shakhas).

Bawankule was accompanied by MLCs Anil Sole and Prakash Gajbhiye, Divisional Commissioner Anoop Kumar, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) A S K Sinha and school children in the plantation drive.

Nagpur Metro Railway Corporation Managing Director Brajesh Dixit along with other officials planted trees on the busy Amravati road, which is also the route of the proposed Metro rail.

The Metro Rail Corporation will plant about 5,000 trees in Nagpur during the season.
