‘RSS carrying out 1.52 lakh welfare projects in India’

Nagpur: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has 56,859 shakhas across the country, of which 5,534 were added in the last one year, an office-bearer of the oraganisation said today.

Deepak Tamshettiwar, RSS Vidarbha region chief, while speaking to reporters here, also said that the Sangh is at present carrying out 1,52,388 welfare projects across the country.

“RSS has 56,859 shakhas across the country, of which 5,534 were added in the last one year. There are 2,100 shakhas at 1,328 places in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra,” he said.

The daily shakhas are 36,868 in number, of which 3,700 are new addions, Tamshettiwar said.

He said the Sangh members would start wearing trousers in place of Khaki shorts from Vijaya Dashami this year.

The new dress code of RSS ‘swayam sewaks’ — dark khaki full length trousers — will be effective from Vijaya Dashami later this year.

Khaki shorts, the trademark RSS dress for 91 years, are on their way out and making way for brown trousers.

“While the trousers will now be used for ceremonies and functions, the previous khaki shorts will be allowed for daily shakahs,” he added.
